Bret Michaels will remain in the hospital under the care of his doctors after undergoing emergency surgery to remove his appendix early Monday morning.

The 47-year-old former Poison frontman – and Celebrity Apprentice contestant – spiked a fever overnight, which could be a sign of an infection, his rep said in a statement.

Michaels, who's currently on his Roses and Thorns tour, was rushed to a hospital in San Antonio Sunday after suffering from excruciating stomach pains originally thought to be symptoms of the stomach flu. A CT scan showed that his appendix was about to burst. Michaels, who is diabetic, had an emergency appendectomy at 1 a.m. Monday.

Bret remains under medical supervision at an undisclosed private care facility specializing in the rehabilitation of diabetic patients. While the surgery went well and Doctors are optimistic that the rocker will make a full recovery, the fact that he was exhausted due to his rigorous schedule prior to the surgery and coupled with the fact that he has diabetes, the surgery has taken its toll. Even for non diabetic patients the recovery from surgery can be long and painful. Doctors were amazed at how good of health Bret was in being a 47 year-old diabetic. However the main focus and concern right now is that he is able to rest, recover and maintain good blood sugar levels while doing so.

Bret Michaels's health has taken a turn for the worse, PEOPLE has learned: After an excruciating headache late Thursday night, the star was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where doctors discovered he suffered a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleeding at the base of his brain stem), according to a source close to the situation.

Michaels, 47, is currently in critical condition. "After several CAT scans, MRIs and an angiogram, [doctors] decided to keep Michaels in the ICU and are running several tests to determine the cause. [It] will be touch and go for the next few days while he is under intense observation," the source says.

Over the course of a few days, Bret Michaels went from rocking reality TV to reeling from health problems.

The ex-Poison frontman, former star of VH1's "Rock of Love With Bret Michaels," and current "Celebrity Apprentice" contestant was hospitalized at an undisclosed facility Thursday after suffering a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage, or bleeding at the base of his brain stem, according to People magazine.

Michaels, 47, was in critical condition and under "intense observation" by doctors while they run tests to determine the cause of his bleeding, People reported.

ABCNews.com's calls and e-mails to Michaels' publicist were not immediately returned.

Last weekend, Michaels revealed to his fans that he was rushed to a hospital on April 11 for an emergency appendectomy.

Bret Michaels remains in critical condition in an intensive care unit as doctors search for the source of the bleeding in his brain. As Rolling Stone reported, the Poison frontman and Rock of Love star was rushed to an undisclosed hospital last Thursday, April 22nd, after complaining of an "excruciating" headache, which the rocker compared to "[getting] hit in the head with a baseball bat over and over again," a source tells People . Medical tests revealed that Michaels was suffering from a subarachnoid hemorrhage, bleeding at the base of his brain stem.

"As of now Bret remains in ICU under 24-hour surveillance. Further testing this week will help locate the source of the bleeding," Michaels' official website posted this morning. "Please remember Bret is, and always has been, a fighter and survivor and is under the best medical care possible." The statement on Michaels' website instructed fans to ignore the rash of unauthorized interviews and "incorrect information" circulating the past few days, and implored fans to check the official site for updates on the rocker's condition this week.

The hemorrhage marks Michaels' second health scare in as many weeks: While on tour in San Antonio, Texas, Michaels underwent emergency appendectomy surgery. Last year, he was injured by a descending set piece at the Tony Awards that left him with a fractured nose. Michaels also suffers from Type 1 Diabetes and competed on this season's Celebrity Apprentice to raise money and awareness for the American Diabetes Association. "[Michaels is] a great competitor and champion," The Apprentice's Donald Trump said in a statement, "and I hope he will be fine."
