Out of print for many years, TYR's early musical signs of life are almost as secretive as the band's reclusive homeland, the Faeroe Islands. Yet fans of TYR will finally be able to also embrace their early works. The re-release " How Far to Asgaard" comprises not only the debut album of the same title, but also the single "Ólavur Riddararós" (2002). Both releases deliver the ingredients that fans of the Viking Metal genre have come to love and expect, including sweeping vocal lines, diverse songwriting, and extraordinary usicianship, as well as new artwork that fits in perfectly with the album's lyrical theme. Týr have signed a contract with Metal Blade Records for 3 releases, the first of which is intended to be released in May next year.

Faroe Islands pagan metal band TÝR has inked a three-album deal with Metal Blade Records. The signing took place yesterday (Wednesday, September 12) at the famous Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California with the label's CEO, Brian Slagel. After the signing, TÝR played a show at the Whisky A Go Go two blocks down the Sunset Strip.

New album: recording begins in May

TÝR, hailing all the way from the Faroe Islands, will once again return to North America. This time, they will be performing as part of Paganfest 2013 with Ensiferum, Heidevolk, Trollfest, and Helsott. The tour will begin on Saturday, March 30th in Denver, CO, and wraps up on April 21st in New York, NY at the Gramercy Theater. Following Paganfest, TÝR will begin recording their seventh full-length album. The title and art are yet to be announced and are to be considered works in progress, but vocalist/guitarist Heri Joensen has divulged that the album “is about women. Earthly women, valkyries and goddesses. It touches on subjects from nordic mythology such as the quest for fame, death in battle and valhalla.”

Some of the song titles thus far include: “Mare Of My Night” and “Come My Valkyrie”. TÝR has also confirmed that they will collaborate with producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Aborted, Mercenary) for the fifth consecutive album. Hansen has produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered the band’s previous four albums: The Lay of Thrym, By the Light of the Northern Star, Land, and Ragnarock.

The unique approach of TÝR’s music, melting traditional Nordic songs and dances with Celtic influences, doom, heavy, and progressive metal has found fans around the globe. “Hail to The Hammer” has become the hymn to the new generation of folk, pagan, and Viking metal fans.

We regret to inform you that Kári Streymoy and the rest of the band have parted ways.

Kári suffered a back injury in 2008, and since then he has had some issues with his drumming. That is the main reason that the co-operation has been problematic for some time now, and we finally decided to part ways.

We want to thank Kári for his time in the band. It's been great to have you with us, we wish you the best of luck in the future and we hope you recover fully some day.

Faroe Islands-based metallers TÝR are recording their new album at Hansen studios in Ribe, Denmark with producer Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, ABORTED, MERCENARY). For drum tracking on the CD, TÝR has enlisted the services of George Kollias, one of metal's most accomplished drummers, primarily known for his work in NILE, as well as NIGHTFALL.
